Settlers of Grey Islands

Settlers of Grey Islands is a custom version of the popular board game Settlers of Catan. Originating with my experience of living on the isolated Grey Islands off Newfoundland's north coast, this version of the game incorporates the resources, geography and culture of Newfoundland - caribou, heathlands and resettled communities, just to name a few. The piece was exhibited at Grenfell Art Gallery as part of the faculty exhibition Mixer in 2010. The public was encouraged to play the game while it was on display in the gallery. Many of my diverse interests coalesce in this work: interactive art, art as a social experience, customization of ceramic materials, and Newfoundland cultural expression pertaining to resettlement.
